Colic is a description, not a disease. Colic describes a baby that is crying incessantly, excessively or abnormally. There have been so many explanations and treatment options through the ages, which explains the multitude of ongoing therapies on our pharmacy shelves today. Simple measures can certainly be used/taken if child, parents and bonding are all adequate, but if you are concerned, rather than dampening down the cries with more food or “colic remedies”, consult an expert to exclude structural problems in the gut; milk allergies, gastro-oesophageal reflux (GORD), urinary tract infection or hunger.
