Croup

Croup or laryngo, voice box, trachea in bronchitis is a scary condition triggered 90% by a virus and occasionally by an allergy. It usually occurs in the early hours of the morning when natural steroid levels are at their lowest. The large airways narrow rapidly. This triggers noisy inspiratory breathing and a barking cough like a seal or dog. It can often cause panic and fear in the child so calming them helps dramatically. Usually, a visit to the hospital is needed to alleviate the narrowing.  Adrenaline nebulisation and oral steroids might be needed for a few days to relieve the inflammation.
