Fits or Febrile Fits

Fits or Febrile Fits are electrical charges escaping control in the brain leading to a variety of uncontrolled motor episodes with loss of consciousness. Complicated or recurring seizures or fits need a detailed assessment and investigation as well as treatment, but febrile seizures are:

  • Common 1 in 100 kids
  • Occur over a fixed age period 6 months to 6 years
  • 30% have one, 30% have a few, and 30% have frequent episodes
  • Hardly ever need long term prevention
  • Are short-lasting and not damaging
  • Start with a rise in temperature or fever, and control thereof does not always prevent it
