Fits or Febrile Fits are electrical charges escaping control in the brain leading to a variety of uncontrolled motor episodes with loss of consciousness. Complicated or recurring seizures or fits need a detailed assessment and investigation as well as treatment, but febrile seizures are:
- Common 1 in 100 kids
- Occur over a fixed age period 6 months to 6 years
- 30% have one, 30% have a few, and 30% have frequent episodes
- Hardly ever need long term prevention
- Are short-lasting and not damaging
- Start with a rise in temperature or fever, and control thereof does not always prevent it
