Rectal Bleeding

Rectal bleeding is always alarming and most often caused by:

  • A fissure in ano, where the hard stool causes a minor tear coming through the small anus.  The fresh red blood is not mixed in with the stool, and a course of poo softener is usually adequate.

Other causes include :

  • Infection (Dysentery) and is not viral but rather commonly bacterial or parasitic where meds, investigation and treatment are required.
