Rhinitis

Rhinitis is inflammation of the nose (Rhino) and is caused by either of the following:

  • Viral: clear runny nose with fever
  • Bacterial – thick green-yellow discharge often accompanying sore ears or sinus.
  • Allergic – persistently runny nose often with an itch of nose and eyes; dark rings under the eyes – allergic “shiners”.  Is it grass, pollen, house dust mites or pets?  Check it out by avoidance. Though not always possible, avoidance is also better than long term treatment.
  • NB: BAD snot from one nostril often indicates a foreign body in the nose – more often in boys – but also in girls!
